Covid fears force Beijing Olympics venue to slash spectator capacity

With just three months to go before the Winter Olympics kicks off in Beijing, one venue has been forced to drastically slash its capacity over fears of a resurgence of Covid.

The ‘Ice Cube’ venue will operate at 20 per cent capacity during the Beijing Winter Olympics as part of a program to control any potential outbreaks.

All staff at the venue have received booster Covid-19 jabs, while the estimated 2,900 athletes set to fly in over the coming weeks must be fully vaccinated or face 21 days’ quarantine upon arrival. They will also be tested daily.

The Beijing Winter Olympics will be held from February 4 to 20.
