Climate activists in Western Australia have pledged to blockade an upcoming a mining and fossil fuel industry conference in Perth.
Blockade RTS for Climate Justice is looking to disrupt the Resources Technology Showcase (RTS) being held at the Perth Convention Centre on November 27-28.
The latest call for disruption follows the recent violent protests that sought to shut down the International Mining and Resources Conference in Melbourne.
The RTS conference will see representatives from Shell, Woodside and Chevron attend, while WA Premier Mark McGowan will speak at the opening plenary.
The protest is supported by a diverse range of groups, including Arts & Cultural Workers for Climate Action, School Strike 4 Climate, National Union of Students, Maritime Union of Australia, Extinction Rebellion WA, Curtin University Student Guild, the Socialist Alliance, Socialist Alternative, 350.org and Free West Papua.
“It is simply unacceptable that a conference dominated by corporations, who through their actions are dedicated to accelerating this crisis, should be allowed to take place,” stated the sign-on statement inviting others to join.
The blockade will begin at Perth Convention Centre on the first day of the conference at 8am.
