The City of Melbourne has doubled funding for event sponsorship through its 2023 Business Event Sponsorship Program this year with 24 business events receiving financial support.

Among the business events to share in the $200,000 funding pool are the AI Festival: AI for Business and Social by Deakin University; Sustainable Tech Pitch Night @ Melbourne Connect by Silicon Beach Australia; the Australian XR Festival by CloudBNE; Enlit Australia by Talk2 Media and Events International; AIDC Innovation Day by International Documentary Conference; the Connecting Women Lunch by BioMelbourne Network; and The Finnies Awards 2023 by FinTech Australia.

City of Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp said the City was excited to “bring together the thinkers, innovators and explorers who are seeking to make our City the best and brightest it can be”.

“We’re doubling the amount of funding for our Business Event Sponsorship Program – supporting more businesses and startups to collaborate, explore new ideas and showcase emerging technology,” she said.

Business and Global Opportunities portfolio lead Councillor Kevin Louey said the events are expected to bring more than 18,000 people to Melbourne.

“Providing better access to the resources and knowledge needed to ensure Melbourne is a key player on the world stage across a diverse range of industries,” he said.

“Melbourne is a great destination to work, study and live, and we’ll continue to invest in our city’s future – attracting more investors, students and talent from across the globe.”

The successful events will take place from late November until June 2023.
