Cannes film festival postpones for two months

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic in Europe has forced organisers of the iconic Cannes Film Festival to postpone this year’s event for two months.

“As announced last autumn, the Festival de Cannes reserved the right to change its dates depending on how the global health situation developed,” the organisers said in a statement.

“Initially scheduled from 11 to 22 May 2021, the Festival will therefore now take place from Tuesday 6 to Saturday 17 July 2021.”

The announcement is the latest setback for the Cannes Film Festival which was cancelled last year, with a smaller low-key event in October showcasing short films but without the A-list movie stars, directors and producers.
