Cancelled music festival to sue insurers over ticket refunds

A music festival is heading to court in a battle to get insurers to cover the refund costs to ticketholders after last year’s events was cancelled due to Covid restrictions.

The Drop Festival has yet to refund the thousands of ticketholders more than a year after the events in Manly, Torquay, Coolangatta and Busselton were canned leaving punters $109 out of pocket.

Hopes of running the events this year were also dashed by a shake-up of the World Surf League’s (WSL) Australian events in 2021.

Speaking to the Manly Daily, a festival spokesperson said that the organisers were forced to cancel their 2021 events which normally run alongside the WSL events after the surfing comp dates and locations were changed.

“We run our events alongside the WSL event, but they changed their dates and venues,” said the spokesperson.

“There was no point going ahead. Plus, we wouldn’t have been able to run them how we would like because of COVID restrictions.”

New dates are now being secured for 2022.
