Bidders commit to keep Virgin Australia based in Queensland

The Queensland Investment Corporation has struck a deal with the two bidders competing for Virgin Australia to keep the carrier’s base in Brisbane.

Cyrus Capital and Bain Capital have lodged their final bids for Virgin Australia with administrator Deloitte expected to announce a winner before the end of the month.

Treasurer Cameron Dick said earlier the state would chip in $200 million to the bidder who was prepared to retain the carrier’s headquarters in Queensland.

“We’ve been talking with all bidders and we’ve been very actively pursuing the interest of the state,” a spokesman for QIC said.
