BCEC marks 10-year advocates partnership

The Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) Convention Advocates Partnership has marked 10 years using conferences to create global alliances enabling the sharing of knowledge and leaving a legacy of new opportunities for research and business.

Now 84 in number, BCEC Advocates have assisted in securing 127 conferences for Brisbane delivering $171.9 million in direct expenditure to the city and the state.

Against the current backdrop of COVID-19, the BCEC Advocates have been busy, continuing to inspire and innovate, helping to create real change in world leading research and development.

With news of multiple COVID-19 vaccines showing early signs of promise, renowned immunologist and BCEC Advocate Professor Ian Frazer, co-inventor of the world’s first cancer vaccine, Gardasil, shared his thoughts on the prospect of a successful vaccine, likely effectiveness and timeframe.

The BCEC Advocates include some very influential leaders in their fields. Mathematician, environmentalist and conservationist Professor Hugh Possingham has been appointed Queensland Chief Scientist, advising government on all scientific matters.

Advocate Professor Jeff Dunn has been voted President-Elect of the Union for International Cancer Control for the period 2022 to 2024.
