AGHA cancels Sydney Gift Fair amid ongoing Covid chaos

The Sydney Gift Fair in February has been cancelled due to continued community based Covid-19 cases in Sydney and the various state border closures.

Set to take place at Sydney Olympic Park in February, the Australian Gift & Homewares Association (AGHA) said that while the show could still potentially operate under the NSW Health guidelines, there would likely be a reduced number of exhibitors and attendees.

AGHA said in a statement “the decision to cancel has not been made lightly”.

“This would result in a less than optimal outcome for the event and all those participating,” the organisation said.

“Without question, 2020 will go down in history as a year of unforeseen and continually evolving challenges.

“Our industry has had to pivot and explore new opportunities, with no written textbook to plot a course through these challenges.

“The health and safety of all staff, exhibitors and buyers is paramount to AGHA and is the only responsible outcome given the current circumstances.”

The more than 300 businesses who had already signed up to attend or exhibit at the fair were informed of the decision last Thursday.

The Melbourne Gift Fair is still scheduled to go ahead on July 31 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
