Morphettville Racecourse has officially opened its $21 million Wolf Blass Event Centre which is part of a massive redevelopment masterplan that includes a new hotel.

Michael Collis, Head of Commercial and Operations at Morphettville Racecourse, says the event centre is part of a masterplan to turn Morphettville Racecourse into an entertainment precinct complete with hotel accommodation.

Eighteen months in the making, the new event centre marks a new chapter for Adelaide’s event capability outside the CBD.

The flexible event space is spilt across two levels with views of the racecourse and Adelaide Hills. The space has 6-meter-high windows and a pillarless layout making it extremely versatile. Encore Event Technologies has been appointed as the in-house event partner responsible for all the AV.

Collis says the new development massively expands the event capabilities of the racecourse.

“The first level caters to 800 person stand up or 600 seated and the ground floor has a capcity of 150 seated or 350 standing, so about 1000 capacity between the two floors,” he said. “So, it’s almost four times the size of the venue’s previous capacity.”

“There are multiple spaces across both the actual racecourse, outdoor spaces and the indoor spaces. In the old grandstand there are also four different venues, so it has got a bit of something for everyone.”

The design of the new event centre was focused around flexibility, with everything from cocktail functions and gala dinners through to conferences and exhibitions able to be accommodated.

And as expected for a venue in South Australia, the food and wine offering has a strong focus on local produce by award-winning executive chef Steven Clark and his team. The beverage menu includes local staples such as Wirra Wirra wines and Barossa Distilling Co Gin.
